I was excited to try the latest intro from On Running as the Cloudswift had been touted as an 'urban running shoe with ultimate cushioning' - something I had found lacking (for me) in the Cloud and Cloudflow. While I am a midfoot runner, I do appreciate some serious cush under foot. Did they get it right this time? Read on...
Heel to Toe rocker
8.5oz / 240g
Mens 10.2oz / 290g
Love the out of the box comfort this shoe offers. It has a nice heel to toe rocker which lends to an easy stride.
Clouds are holding up well. I do run on some gravel roads and still managed to collect some large stones despite the beveled design of the clouds. This could be problematic if you run on loose trails.
The new Helion Superfoam really does shine through. Much plusher than the other two On models I have tried before (Cloud and Cloud Flow). Upper is very light and breathable.
Love the side band as it really does wrap your mid-foot when you lace it up. The laces however are too thin and need some stretch as it doesn’t feel like you can tighten them enough to lock your foot in.
While the drop is a little higher at 7mm than my preference of 0mm – 4 mm, I did enjoy the rocker feel and premium cushion the Swift has to offer. I was a little disappointed that I still had to remove stones from the sole after a gravel road run but if I stick to asphalt, that won’t be an issue.
Travel is a part of my DNA. My daily grind is fueled by planning the next adventure to a new destination. Incorporating a race in a faraway place adds another layer to the experience – it’s the best of both worlds! Full bio here...
